Friends of the Maine Wildlife Park Meeting Schedule.

Gate House VolunteerWhat is a Friend?

It’s who we are and what we do.

We count bears and moose and skunks as our friends, and we do our best to see that their lives are as comfortable and fulfilling as possible.

To do that, some of us plant and maintain gardens. Some welcome visitors to the Park and take their ticket money. Some run the Snack Shack. Some write fundraising letters. Some show visitors around the Park and talk about the animals and birds that live here. Some do a little of everything.

Gate House Volunteer

To be a Friend of the Maine Wildlife Park, our bylaws say you must contribute $25 a year or perform 20 hours of service work. To tell the truth, we prefer the 20 hours. Many of us do both, and in multiples.

The Friends is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Nobody takes a salary, although many of us work hard enough to earn a substantial one. Our rewards come in a different form: the knowledge that we are doing something worth doing, with a bunch of other people worth knowing.

Meetings of the Friends

We meet on the third Wednesday of every month from March through October, at 7:00 P.M. in the Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Building on Route 26 in Gray, a bit north of the Park entrance. Every Friend is welcome to help decide what we’ll spend our money on. Meetings are short and blessedly free of politicking.
